Administrative Personnel

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Minimum of a Master’s degree in the area of instructional or administrative responsibility required.
  2. Minimum of a 3.0 Grade Point Average (GPA) in the highest degree earned.
  3. Alabama State Department of Education Administrative Certification in the area of supervisory responsibility if required.
  4. Must meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.

Please note the above qualifications are only the minimum for administrative positions. Selected positions require a doctorate degree. Furthermore, the Board may approve such alternatives to the above qualifications as they find appropriate and acceptable.

Application Requirements

  1. Application. Applicant must fully complete the application. Failure to do so will result in the application file being deemed incomplete and being mailed back to the applicant.
  2. Three (3) reference letters. Applicants with administrative work experience must provide recommendations from superintendents or immediate supervisor from all contracted experience within the past three years. If administrative experience was not within the past three years, references must be from last contracted experience. One letter must be from current employer or last employer if not currently employed.
  3. Resume. Applicant must submit a detailed resume. The recommended length of the resume is no more than two pages. Content of the resume is determined by the applicant.
  4. Transcript(s). Applicant must provide a transcript(s) which includes all undergraduate and graduate hours attempted from all institutions of higher learning (community college, technical college, college, university). The transcripts must include the course prefix, course title, grade received and hours received for each course. If the applicant is a graduating student, the applicant may submit an unofficial transcript; however, upon graduation, the official transcript must be submitted immediately.
  5. Certification/License. Applicant must submit a copy of their current certificate or license with their application. If the applicant is a graduating student, the applicant must submit a letter from the university stating that you are starting the application process.
  6. Portfolio. Applicant may be asked submit a portfolio which demonstrates excellence in the following knowledge/skill areas: Communication, Collaboration, Assessment/Evaluation, Organizing for Results, Planning, Laws and Policies, Problem Solving, Innovation, Technology Management, Program Operations/Management, Fiscal Leadership/Management and Leadership of Human Resources. The portfolio is due on the closing date of the posting.

Interview

The Director of Personnel is responsible for scheduling interviews for all vacant administrative positions. The Superintendent will appoint an interview panel for each administrative opening. The Personnel Department will review the application files for the following:

  1. Application
  2. Three Reference Letters
  3. Resume
  4. Transcript(s) (GPA)
  5. Certification / License
  6. Portfolio

An applicant who does not meet the qualifications will not receive an interview. An applicant with an incomplete application or less than a 3.0 GPA on the highest degree will not receive an interview; therefore, they cannot be recommended to the Superintendent. The Superintendent has sole discretion on determining who receives an interview.

All applications must be kept in the Personnel Department.

Recommendation to the Superintendent and the Board of Education

The Director of Personnel will submit a Board recommendation form to the Superintendent by 1 p.m. on the Wednesday prior to the regularly scheduled Monday Board meeting. The deadline for recommendations to be included on the supplemental list and for special called Board meetings will be determined by the Superintendent or designee. A Board recommendation form cannot be submitted until a posting for the vacant position has expired.

The Superintendent or designee will provide the Board’s Personnel Committee a copy of the recommendations on the Thursday prior to regularly scheduled Board meeting. The Superintendent or designee, in consultation with the Personnel Committee will determine if a supplemental list will be necessary. In the event of a special called Board meeting, the Board will receive a copy of the Superintendent’s recommendations 24 hours prior to the meeting.

Only the Board can hire administrative personnel.
