Certified and Professional Personnel
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in the area of instructional
responsibility required.
- Minimum of a 2.5 Grade Point Average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale.
A minimum of a 3.0 GPA is preferred.
- Alabama State Department of Education Teaching Certification
in the area of instructional responsibility required.
- Must meet the “highly qualified” (HQ) criteria as
defined by the “No Child Left Behind Act of 2001”and
The Alabama Model for Identifying Highly Qualified Teachers.
- Must meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or
certification/licensure under the Alabama
Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
Please note the above qualifications are only the minimum
for certified positions. Selected certified positions require
a master’s
degree or above. Furthermore, the Board may approve such
alternatives to the above qualifications as they find appropriate
and acceptable.
Application Requirements
- Application. Applicants are to complete the
application. This
includes signing and dating the application
to verify the information is correct.
Failure to complete the application will
result in the application file being deemed
incomplete and being mailed back
to the applicant.
- Three (3) reference letters. Applicants with education
work experience must provide recommendations
from principals and /or superintendents
from all experience within the past
three years.
If experience was not within the past
three years, references must be from
last contracted experience. Applicants
who are beginning teachers registered
with a college placement office must include
references from their student teaching
supervisor(s) and cooperating teacher(s).
One letter must be from current employer
or last employer
if not currently employed. College placement
files that include only evaluations,
but no letters will not be accepted.
All references
must include contact information including,
but not limited to phone
number, address, and E-mail (if available).
- Resume. Applicant must submit a detailed resume with references.
The recommended length of the resume
is no more than two pages. Content of
the resume is determined by the applicant.
- Transcript(s). Applicant must provide a transcript(s)
which includes all undergraduate and
graduate hours attempted, course prefixes,
course titles, grades and credit received
from all institutions
of higher learning (community college,
technical college, college, university).
If the applicant is a graduating student,
the applicant
may submit an unofficial transcript;
however, upon graduation, the official
transcript must be submitted immediately.
- Certification/License. Applicant must submit a copy of
their current certificate or license
with their application. If the applicant
is a graduating student, the applicant
must submit a letter
from the university stating they are
starting the certification process.
Interview
The administrator is responsible for scheduling
interviews for all vacant positions at
their school or work site. At
least 48 hours prior to the interview, the administrator
is to notify the
Personnel Department of the list of applicants to be interviewed.
The Personnel Department will review the application files
for the following:
- Application
- Three Reference Letters
- Resume
- Transcript(s) (GPA and HQ status)
- Certification / License
An applicant who does not meet the minimum qualifications
will not receive an interview. An Applicant with an incomplete
application, less than a 2.5 GPA or who fails to meet the
HQ standards will not
receive an interview; therefore, they cannot be recommended
to the Superintendent. The administrator has sole discretion
on determining who receives an interview.
All applications must be kept in the Personnel Department.
Recommendation to the Superintendent and the Board of Education
The administrator is to submit a Board recommendation form
to the Personnel Department by 1 p.m. on the Wednesday prior
to the regularly scheduled Monday Board meeting. The deadline
for recommendations
to be included on the supplemental list and for special called
Board meetings will be determined by the Superintendent or
designee. A
Board recommendation form cannot be submitted until a posting
for the vacant position has expired.
All certified personnel recommended to the Board are to be
interviewed by the Director of Personnel unless they were
previously interviewed at a career fair. All certified personnel
recommended
to the Board from schools on academic priority (SAT 10) will
be interviewed by both the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum
and Instruction
and the Director of Personnel.
The Superintendent or designee will provide the Board’s Personnel
Committee a copy of the recommendations on the Thursday prior to
the regularly scheduled Board meeting. The Superintendent or designee,
in consultation with the Personnel Committee will determine if a
supplemental list will be necessary. In the event of a special called
Board meeting, the Board will receive a copy of the Superintendent’s
recommendations 24 hours prior to the meeting.
Only the Board can hire certified and professional personnel.
