Bookkeeper, Federal Programs
Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Two (2) years office bookkeeping experience required.
- Experience in the use of Excel spreadsheets required.
- Demonstrates ability to perform the tasks associated with double entry bookkeeping.
- Must meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Executive Director of Finance Required knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Comprehensive knowledge of double entry accounting and bookkeeping systems and accounts payable procedures
- Ability to keep business matters confidential
- Ability to type 50 words per minute
- Proficiency in technology programs such as Word and Excel
- Ability to communicate effectively via e-mail and other electronic communications
- Ability to deal with people in a pleasant, courteous manner
- Ability to use excellent business English, grammar, spelling and punctuation
- Ability to organize materials and maintain accurate records
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with others
- Ability to work effectively under minimum supervision
- Ability to exercise tact, good judgment and initiative
- Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in a fast-pace, high-intensive work environment
Essential functions:
- Assists in budget preparation and monitoring of the federal programs
- Maintains a complete and systematic set of records of all financial transactions of the federal programs
- Compiles and distributes a monthly report for each federal program
- Prepares annual financial reports for federal programs at the end of the fiscal year
- Performs all accounts payable functions for each federal program
- Monitors payroll for all employees of the federal programs
- Conducts a survey of all students in the school system and prepares the report for Public Law 874
- Takes leave time in accordance with Board policy and reports all absences to
SubFinder in a timely manner.
- Attends work and arrives/departs work at the appropriate times as determined by the
immediate supervisor.
- Assumes other reasonable and equitable job-related duties assigned by the Executive Director of Finance.
Terms of employment:
The terms of employment shall be in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s Policy Manual, Fair Dismissal Act of Alabama and the Board’s Salary Schedule – Central Office Administrative Support.
Evaluation:
Performance evaluation shall be in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel – GCRK and GCRK – R.SOURCE: Tuscaloosa City Schools, Tuscaloosa, Alabama
