Bookkeeper, Federal Programs

Qualifications:

  1. A high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  2. Two (2) years office bookkeeping experience required.
  3. Experience in the use of Excel spreadsheets required.
  4. Demonstrates ability to perform the tasks associated with double entry bookkeeping.
  5. Must meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
  6. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Executive Director of Finance

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

  1. Comprehensive knowledge of double entry accounting and bookkeeping systems and accounts payable procedures
  2. Ability to keep business matters confidential
  3. Ability to type 50 words per minute
  4. Proficiency in technology programs such as Word and Excel
  5. Ability to communicate effectively via e-mail and other electronic communications
  6. Ability to deal with people in a pleasant, courteous manner
  7. Ability to use excellent business English, grammar, spelling and punctuation
  8. Ability to organize materials and maintain accurate records
  9. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with others
  10. Ability to work effectively under minimum supervision
  11. Ability to exercise tact, good judgment and initiative
  12. Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in a fast-pace, high-intensive work environment

Essential functions:

  1. Assists in budget preparation and monitoring of the federal programs
  2. Maintains a complete and systematic set of records of all financial transactions of the federal programs
  3. Compiles and distributes a monthly report for each federal program
  4. Prepares annual financial reports for federal programs at the end of the fiscal year
  5. Performs all accounts payable functions for each federal program
  6. Monitors payroll for all employees of the federal programs
  7. Conducts a survey of all students in the school system and prepares the report for Public Law 874
  8. Takes leave time in accordance with Board policy and reports all absences to SubFinder in a timely manner.
  9. Attends work and arrives/departs work at the appropriate times as determined by the immediate supervisor.
  10. Assumes other reasonable and equitable job-related duties assigned by the Executive Director of Finance.

Terms of employment:

The terms of employment shall be in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s Policy Manual, Fair Dismissal Act of Alabama and the Board’s Salary Schedule – Central Office Administrative Support.

Evaluation:

Performance evaluation shall be in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel – GCRK and GCRK – R.SOURCE: Tuscaloosa City Schools, Tuscaloosa, Alabama
