Qualifications
- Minimum of a B.S. Degree in the area of instructional responsibility
required.
- Alabama State Department of Education
Teaching Certification in the area of
instructional responsibility required.
- Must meet the “highly qualified” criteria
as defined by the “No Child Left Behind Act of
2001”
- Must meet the suitability criteria
for employment and/or certification/licensure
under the Alabama Child Protection
Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
- Such alternatives to the
above qualifications
as the Board may find appropriate and
acceptable.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials and
equipment of instructional specialty to which assigned.
- Knowledge of student academic growth
and development applicable to the grade
levels assigned.
- Ability to write successful grant
applications.
- Knowledge of CHOM’s program related to its
mission, goals and organization.
- Ability to apply knowledge of current
research and theory to museum programs.
- Ability to plan and implement museum
experiences based on system and state
courses of study and the needs and abilities
of students.
- Ability to establish and maintain
effective relationships with museum visitors,
parents, community members and co-workers.
- Ability to problem-solve and work
without supervision.
- Skilled and effective in oral and
written communication.
- Ability to use and management technology
including, but not limited to, e-mail,
internet, Microsoft Office Programs,
CD-ROMS, DVDs, videos, etc.
- Ability to work an alternate schedule,
late hours and/or weekends.
- Physical and emotional ability and
dexterity to perform required work and
move about as needed.
- Knowledge and understanding of the
Board’s policies and procedures. The Board’s policy
manual is located in the school office,
library and the Tuscaloosa City Schools
webpage.
- Knowledge and understanding of CHOM’s policies,
procedures and practices.
Essential Functions
- Serves as a liaison to the Tuscaloosa City Schools and Tuscaloosa
County Schools.
- Develops and implements educational
programs for school visits including
demonstrations.
- Assists with the training of program
specialists, interns, volunteers and
board members.
- Assists with the scheduling of all
school group visits to CHOM during the
academic year.
- Maintains the contents of CHOM’s Resource
Kits for use in the classroom.
- Assists in overseeing the museum’s exhibits
and contents.
- Reports to the appropriate CHOM personnel
the maintenance needs of the exhibits
and contents.
- Assists in developing temporary exhibits
and displays using CHOM’s collections.
- Assists with ordering supplies for
all school programs.
- Directs the set-up and clean up of
school programs, exhibits and contents.
- Contributes to CHOM’s public relations campaign,
including print, web and video mediums.
- Assists with events hosted by CHOM.
- Attends and participates in all CHOM
staff meetings.
- Assesses student abilities as related
to desired educational goals, objectives
and student outcomes.
- Develops and implements a program
of instruction that meets the
individual needs and abilities of students
which is consistent with system(s)/state/CHOM
courses of study and programs.
- Plans and implements a variety of
appropriate instructional/learning
strategies and activities, which serve
the needs, and capabilities of the students.
- Assists with student behavioral management
while students attend CHOM.
- Actively participates in and works
with CHOM personnel in planning
effective instructional goals, objectives,
methods and curriculum.
- Participates in professional growth
and development activities
including staff meetings, in-services
and staff development activities as
required or assigned.
- Ensures that the instructional environment
is attractive, safe and generally conducive
to learning.
- Ensures confidentiality of all students’ records,
performance and all other related
matters.
- Maintains a valid Alabama professional
teaching certificate and is
responsible for the renewal of the certificate.
- Attends work and arrives/departs
work at the appropriate times as determined
by the CHOM Director.
- Takes leave time in accordance with
Board policy and reports all
absences to SubFinder in a timely manner.
- Assumes other reasonable and equitable
job-related duties assigned
by the CHOM supervisory staff and/or
the Director of Elementary Education.
Terms of Employment
The terms of employment shall be in accordance with provisions
of the Board's Policy Manual, Alabama Teacher Tenure Act and the Board's
Salary Schedule – Teachers: 182-day Contract.
Evaluation
Performance of this job will be evaluated
annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy
on Evaluation of Professional
Personnel.
