Coordinator of Career-Technical Programs

Job Goal:

To administer local career-technical education programs collaboratively with business and industry; to administer, promote, encourage, and evaluate career-technical programs from a visionary perspective; to establish, continually maintain, and periodically revise policies and plans for program operation and maintenance of curriculum relevancy; and to maintain operating standards required by the State Board of Education.

Qualifications:

1. Master’s Degree or above in career/technical education or educational administration from an accredited institution.
2. A valid Alabama teaching certificate in the field of school administration.
3. Five years successful teaching or administrative experience in career/technical education or other equivalent experience as deemed appropriate by the Superintendent.
4. Must meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457
5. Such alternatives to the above as the Board may require.

Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction

Supervises:

Assists the Principal of TCT with supervisory functions

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

  1. Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and their applicable procedures.
  2. Knowledge of school law.
  3. Knowledge of trends in career/technical education.
  4. Knowledge of state and local policies and procedures.
  5. Demonstrated interest in human relations and problem-solving.
  6. Demonstrated interest in innovative practices.
  7. Knowledge of technology equipment, computers, and software.
  8. Ability to organize effectively.
  9. Ability to speak and write clearly and effectively.
  10. Ability to communicate effectively with e-mail.
  11. Knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, Access and Publisher
  12. Physical mobility, dexterity, strength and visual acuity to meet needs and deal with student problems.

Essential functions:

  1. Facilitate the articulation of community and manpower needs into meaningful career/technical programs.
  2. Prepare a strategic plan for career-technical education.
  3. Work with appropriate state agencies for approval and financial support of career/technical programs.
  4. Plan and prepare annual financial and personnel budgets.
  5. Identify long-range needs for facilities, equipment, and supplies for programs.
  6. Schedule facilities for maximum utilization by teachers.
  7. Evaluate facilities and equipment annually.
  8. Assist middle school and high school principals in the selection of career-technical faculty.
  9. Plan and/or conduct staff development activities.
  10. Work closely with teacher education institutions and state staff to develop effective programs at pre-service and in-service levels.
  11. Ensure that career/technical teachers attend professional development conferences and workshops and that technical update hours are earned.
  12. Require teachers to acquire skills to keep pace with technological advancements in the program area.
  13. Evaluate teacher performance using the teacher evaluation system.
  14. Observe teaching practices in the classroom where career/technical programming is offered.
  15. Define and articulate goals and objectives for programs within the school system.
  16. Work with counselors to determine student’s interests and aptitudes for coursework within programs.
  17. Require and facilitate active student organizations.
  18. Develop activities and techniques to involve the community in school activities.
  19. Provide a system for positive public relations.
  20. Collect, organize, analyze, and interpret data concerning the performance of students.
  21. Utilize the advisory committee for the overall career/technical program.
  22. Participate in non-administrative duties such as hall duty, bus duty, chaperoning, etc. when necessary.
  23. Promote and facilitate career/technical education among community stakeholders.
  24. Keep teachers informed of effective teaching methodology and current literature for “best practices.”
  25. Takes leave time in accordance with Board policy and reports all absences to SubFinder in a timely manner.
  26. Attends works regularly as scheduled and is punctual.
  27. Assumes other reasonable and equitable job-related duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Terms of employment:

The terms of employment shall be in accordance with provisions of the Board's Policy Manual, Alabama Teacher Tenure Act, Teacher Accountability Act and the Board's Salary Schedule – Coordinators for Curriculum and Instruction.

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel (GBI).SOURCE: Tuscaloosa City Schools, Tuscaloosa, Alabama
