Coordinator of Career-Technical Programs
Job Goal:
To administer local career-technical education programs collaboratively
with business and industry; to administer, promote, encourage,
and evaluate career-technical programs from a visionary perspective;
to establish, continually maintain, and periodically revise policies
and plans for program operation and maintenance of curriculum relevancy;
and to maintain operating standards required by the State Board
of Education.
Qualifications:
1. Master’s Degree or above in career/technical education
or educational
administration from an accredited institution.
2. A valid Alabama teaching certificate in the field of school administration.
3. Five years successful teaching or administrative experience in career/technical
education or other equivalent experience as deemed appropriate by the Superintendent.
4. Must meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure
under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457
5. Such alternatives to the above as the Board may require.

Supervises:
Assists the Principal of TCT with supervisory functions
Required knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and their
applicable procedures.
- Knowledge of school law.
- Knowledge of trends in career/technical education.
- Knowledge of state and local policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated interest in human relations and problem-solving.
- Demonstrated interest in innovative practices.
- Knowledge of technology equipment, computers, and software.
- Ability to organize effectively.
- Ability to speak and write clearly and effectively.
- Ability to communicate effectively with e-mail.
- Knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office programs
such as Word, Excel, Access and Publisher
- Physical mobility, dexterity, strength
and visual acuity to meet needs and deal
with student
problems.
Essential functions:
- Facilitate the articulation of community and manpower
needs into meaningful
career/technical programs.
- Prepare a strategic plan for career-technical education.
- Work with appropriate state agencies for approval and financial
support of
career/technical programs.
- Plan and prepare annual financial and personnel budgets.
- Identify long-range needs for facilities, equipment, and supplies
for programs.
- Schedule facilities for maximum utilization by teachers.
- Evaluate facilities and equipment annually.
- Assist middle school and high school principals in the selection
of career-technical
faculty.
- Plan and/or conduct staff development activities.
- Work closely with teacher education institutions and state
staff to develop effective programs at pre-service and in-service
levels.
- Ensure that career/technical teachers attend professional
development conferences and workshops and that technical update
hours are earned.
- Require teachers to acquire skills to keep pace with technological
advancements
in the program area.
- Evaluate teacher performance using the teacher evaluation
system.
- Observe teaching practices in the classroom where career/technical
programming
is offered.
- Define and articulate goals and objectives for programs within
the school system.
- Work with counselors to determine student’s interests and aptitudes
for coursework within programs.
- Require and facilitate active student organizations.
- Develop activities and techniques to involve the community
in school activities.
- Provide a system for positive public relations.
- Collect, organize, analyze, and interpret data concerning
the performance of students.
- Utilize the advisory committee for the overall career/technical
program.
- Participate in non-administrative duties such as hall duty,
bus duty, chaperoning, etc. when necessary.
- Promote and facilitate career/technical education among
community stakeholders.
- Keep teachers informed of effective teaching methodology
and current literature for “best practices.”
- Takes leave time in accordance with Board policy and reports
all absences to
SubFinder in a timely manner.
- Attends works regularly as scheduled and is punctual.
- Assumes other reasonable and equitable job-related duties
assigned by the immediate
supervisor.
Terms of employment:
The terms of employment shall be in accordance with provisions
of the Board's Policy Manual, Alabama Teacher Tenure Act, Teacher
Accountability Act and the
Board's Salary Schedule – Coordinators for Curriculum and Instruction.
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance
with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional
