Coordinator of Attendance and Pupil Services

Qualifications:

  1. Master’s degree in education or counseling.
  2. Administration and/or supervision certification preferred.
  3. A valid Alabama Teaching certificate.
  4. At least three (3) years successful teaching certificate.
  5. A valid Alabama driver’s license is preferred.
  6. Provide own or have access to appropriate transportation to meet job requirements.

Supervises:

Secretary, Attendance and Pupil Services

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

  1. Knowledge of current trends and practices in elementary and secondary education.
  2. Knowledge of Alabama Compulsory Attendance Laws.
  3. Knowledge and understanding of School Administration Student Information (SASI).
  4. Skills in problem solving.
  5. Ability to com municate effectively in written and verbal forms.
  6. Knowledge of Board policies and procedures.
  7. Knowledge of court proceedings regarding student non-attendance.
  8. Physical mobility and visual acuity to visit schools and work sites.
  9. Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in a fast-paced, high intensive work environment.

Job goals:

  1. To assist school personnel and the home in helping students fulfill their learning potential, and parents to be involved in that process.
  2. To provide services designed to document, report, correct, and improve student attendance.

Essential functions:

  1. Coordinates student hearings.
  2. Follows up with parents and students who are attending alternative programs
  3. Confers with Juvenile personnel outside the school system as needed regarding student concerns.
  4. Acts as a liaison between administrators and parents to enhance communication and understanding of the procedures and process of student services.
  5. Identifies, plans and assists in providing services for special population students services.
  6. Identifies, plans and assists in providing services for special population students.
  7. Enforces Alabama Compulsory Attendance Laws.
  8. Collects weekly-unexcused absence reports.
  9. Monitors children with excessive absences.
  10. Works with professional staff members at schools on record keeping and the prevention of student absenteeism.
  11. Represents the Tuscaloosa City School System on several community agencies and committees.
  12. Coordinates the involvement of the students and families required to attend the early warning truancy prevention program and represents the Tuscaloosa City School System at the Early Warning Program.
  13. Enforces the Tuscaloosa City School System’s zoning policy.
  14. Considers hardship transfer requests and works with families enrolling their children in school.
  15. Issues work permits for Tuscaloosa City's students.
  16. Collects monthly attendance reports submitted by all schools and computes the average daily membership and average daily attendance.
  17. Completes the annual Dropout Report to the State Department of Education.
  18. Assist SASI Data Entry personnel with the reporting and documenting of student attendance and average daily membership.
  19. Completes all State Department of Education requirements for reporting average daily membership.
  20. Assist the Director of Personnel by providing and analyzing attendance statistics to calculate the number of certified and support units.
  21. Assumes other reasonable and equitable job-related duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Terms of employment:

The terms of employment shall be in accordance with provisions of the Board’s Policy Manual, Alabama Teacher Tenure Act, and the Board’s Salary Schedule – Coordinators for General Administration.

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel
