Coordinator of Instructional Technology

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree or above from an accredited college or university.
  2. Minimum of five (5) years experience in instructional technology and professional development.
  3. Must meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
  4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Asst. Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

  1. Ability to plan, organize and deliver technology professional development classes for teachers, administrators and other staff.
  2. Ability to work with classroom teachers to develop specific strategies for integrating technology into instruction.
  3. Ability to provide assistance with the implementation of technology in the classroom into new and existing lessons, grades K-12.
  4. Ability to model the appropriate use of technology when working with students.
  5. Ability to promote the appropriate and ethical use of technology with regard to privacy and copyright issues through acceptable use policy.
  6. Must remain current in knowledge of technology and computer education through reading and by attending conferences/workshops/classes.
  7. Good technical, organization and communication skills
  8. Ability to work with school administrators to meet Administrators Technology Standards, Alabama Code 290-640-030-.01: Approved by the Alabama Board of Education, August 12, 2004; effective, September 16, 2004.
  9. Ability to use excellent business English, grammar, spelling and punctuation.
  10. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally, in writing, and via e-mail and other electronic communications means.
  11. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  12. Ability to work effectively under minimum supervision.
  13. Ability to organize materials and maintain accurate records.
  14. Ability to exercise tact, good judgment and initiative.
  15. Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in a fast-pace, high-intensive work environment.

Job goal:

Improve learning and instruction through the effective use of technology.

Essential functions:

  1. Serve as the point of contact for instructional technology issues
  2. Serve as the local technology liaison and coordinator of specific initiatives established by the Technology Initiatives Office (ALSDE).
  3. Coordinate the technology initiative for all schools in the system which includes school technology plans, websites and other Internet resources sent to teachers for classroom use, and work with teachers in classroom to help students integrate technology.
  4. Maintain current documentation on the status of individual school sites in the installation and the use of technology. Documentation should be collected through classroom visitations and modeling of effective practices.
  5. Maintain effective communications with all school technology representatives, school technology leaders, and school web leaders.
  6. Maintain effective communications with all school technology representatives.
  7. Determine the technology training needs through surveys and meetings with principals and teachers.
  8. Coordinate the planning and implementation of training.
  9. Provide supervisors and collaborators with periodic reports regarding recommendations for improvement, status of technology in schools, needs and concerns.
  10. Coordinate the development of system policies and procedures governing technology issues such as the Acceptable Use and Internet Safety Policy.
  11. Assist the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction in curriculum evaluation and the implementation of technology into the instructional program.
  12. Retain and maintain proper documentation of expenditures associated with technology grants including purchase orders, invoices, equipment inventories, etc.
  13. Be a liaison to system, school, board, community, and parent groups.
  14. Attend meetings, conferences, and workshops such as the Alabama Educational Technology Conference, Alabama Educational Technology Association Conference, IITS video conferences, State/National conferences.
  15. Keep current on emerging technology practices in education.
  16. Coordinate the School Technology Leaders and School Web Leaders programs.
  17. Prepare applications for state/federal technology funding through applications with the Alabama Department of Education and other entities.
  18. Work with the System Technology Coordinator and System Network Administrator to coordinate the technology initiatives for all schools within the system.
  19. Take leave time in accordance with Board policy and reports all absences to SubFinder in a timely manner.
  20. Attend work and arrives/departs work at the appropriate times as determined by the immediate supervisor.
  21. Assume other reasonable and equitable job-related duties assigned by the Asst. Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction.

Terms of employment:

The terms of employment shall be in accordance with provisions of the Board’s Policy Manual, Alabama Teacher Tenure Act, Teacher Accountability Act and the Board’s Salary Schedule – Coordinators for Curriculum and Instruction.

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel (GBI).
