Coordinator of Secondary Programs

Qualifications:

  1. Master’s degree or above from an accredited college or university
  2. Certification in administration/supervision
  3. Three years teaching experience at the secondary level preferred
  4. Valid Alabama certification in administration
  5. Additional administrative/supervisory experience preferred
  6. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

  1. Knowledge of curriculum development, supervision, effective secondary education practices and staff development principles.
  2. Knowledge of scope and sequence of the secondary school curriculum for the school system.
  3. Ability to demonstrate effective leadership skills in group settings.
  4. Effective written and oral communication skills.
  5. Knowledge and ability to use various forms of educational technology.
  6. Ability to use effective public relations skills necessary for the successful implementation of new programs, the coordination of committees, and to maintain productive relationships among colleagues and those supervised.
  7. Knowledge of board policies and procedures.
  8. Knowledge of career/technical education.
  9. Physical mobility and visual acuity to visit schools and classrooms for the improvement of instruction.

Job goal:

To direct and supervise the improvement of curriculum and instruction in the secondary schools of the system.

Essential functions:

  1. Provides general expertise and acts as liaison between the principals and the central office for instruction in secondary schools.
  2. Provides technical advice as required for the use of technology in instructional programs.
  3. Coordinates in – service and professional development activities for secondary teachers.
  4. Assists with the coordination of secondary curriculum review, revision, development and implementation.
  5. Coordinates the System’s 504 plan and assist schools in the implementation.
  6. Serves as liaison between the public schools and the local community.
  7. Provides assistance with teacher evaluation and teacher skills development through scheduling and implementing inter – school visitation programs, classroom observations and conferences with teachers, and dissemination of information relative to teacher improvement and innovative programs.
  8. Initiates, organizes and directs activities of secondary committees for textbook review and selection, curriculum materials production and instructional program adoption or review.
  9. Coordinates and administers student registration procedures for the current year and makes known the available courses for the following school year to students and parent/guardians.
  10. Plans and organizes meetings for secondary counselors related to curriculum information and supervises the distribution of orientation booklets for use by students preparing to enroll in the regular school program at the next grade level.
  11. Maintains a current curriculum policy manual, including graduation requirements, approved courses, credits allowed and other pertinent information.
  12. Reviews all requisitions and purchase orders for the acquisition of instructional materials and equipment.
  13. Reviews and evaluates the result of student testing programs and other evaluative measures used by the school system for continuous improvement of the school program.
  14. Assists in securing grants or other forms of funding to expand or enhance the secondary education programs of the school system.
  15. Represents the school system as directed at conferences, committee sessions, training seminars, community meetings, etc.
  16. Adheres to federal, state, local and board rules and regulations.
  17. Performs other duties as assigned.

Terms of employment:

The terms of employment shall be in accordance with provisions of the Board’s Policy Manual, Alabama Teacher Tenure Act, and the Board’s Salary Schedule – Coordinators for Curriculum and Instruction.

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel
