Curriculum Associate, Special Education

Qualifications:

  1. A master’s degree from an accredited college or university with concentrated course work in special education.
  2. Advanced graduate work in education in the areas of curriculum development, supervision and/or instructional practice.
  3. Minimum of five (5) years experience in areas of specials education-other health.

Reports to:

Pre-K and Special Education Director

Supervises:

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

  1. Demonstrated knowledge of student behavior in his/her area of exceptionality as well as policies and procedures relevant to program implementation and participation.
  2. Knowledge to interpret assessment data, group students and develop methodologies and strategies conducive to individualized instructional needs.
  3. Effective skills in oral and written communication to fulfill IEP requirements and communicate to students, parents, support agencies and other faculty and staff.
  4. Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in a fast-paced, high-intensive work environment.

Job goal:

To assist with curriculum development and Individual Education Plans.

Performance responsibilities:

  1. Assists director and principals by providing leadership for implementing Public Law 94-142 through group and individual meetings.
  2. Assists director and principals in assessing instructional needs of students.
  3. Assists director and principals with curriculum development.
  4. Supervises and coordinates development of a course of study and curriculum guides.
  5. Acts as chairperson of the IEP team and tracks the process from referral to placement.
  6. Works with special education teachers in writing individual educational plans.
  7. Attends individual educational plan meetings.
  8. Regularly observes instructional programs and upon request of principals, helps teachers improve their performance.
  9. Develops and conducts in-service workshops appropriate for various levels of instruction and mainstreaming.
  10. Does hospital/homebound tutoring when necessary.

Terms of employment:

Salary and length of contract to be determined by the Board.

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
