Director of Educational Programs

Qualifications:

  1. Master's degree or above from an accredited college or university.
  2. Certification in administration/supervision.
  3. Three years teaching experience and principal experience.
  4. Valid Alabama certification in administration.
  5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Reports to:

Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

  1. Knowledge of curriculum development, supervision, effective classroom practices and staff development principles.
  2. Ability to demonstrate effective leadership skills in group settings.
  3. Effective written and oral communication skills.
  4. Knowledge and ability to use various forms of education technology.
  5. Ability to use effective public relations skills necessary for the successful implementation of new programs.
  6. Knowledge of board policies an procedures.
  7. Physical mobility and visual acuity to visit schools and classrooms for the improvement of programs.

Job goal:

To direct and supervise the improvement of educational programs of the system.

Performance responsibilities:

  1. Assists with program evaluations and strategic planning for system's elementary academic programs.
  2. Conducts demonstration classroom lessons and assists teachers in planning lessons.
  3. Meets with administrators and teachers to plan instruction to increase student achievement.
  4. Provides general expertise and acts as liaison between the principals and the central office for educational programs.
  5. Provides technical assistance to teachers as needed upon the request of principals and individual teachers.
  6. Coordinates in-service and professional development activities for program improvement.
  7. Assists with the coordination of curriculum review, revision, development and implementation.
  8. Provides assistance with program implementation and teacher professional development through scheduling and school visits, classroom observations and conferences with teachers, and dissemination of information.
  9. Assists with student registration procedures for the current year and makes known the registration information for the following school year to students and parents/guardians.
  10. Assists with textbook adoptions for grades pre-K through 6.
  11. Reviews and evaluates the results of student testing programs and other evaluative measures used by the school system for continuous improvement of the school program.
  12. Assists in securing grants or other forms of funding to expand or enhance the educational programs of the school system.
  13. Represents the school system as directed at conferences, committee sessions, training seminars, community meetings, etc.
  14. Adheres to federal, state, local and board rules and regulations.
  15. Assumes other reasonable and equitable job-related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Terms of employment:

Salary and work year to be determined by the Board of Education.

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
