Director of Student Services
Job Goal:
To assist and support school personnel, the instructional program and the home in helping students fulfill their learning potential, and parents to be involved in that process.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in administration.
- Administration and/or supervision certification preferred.
- A valid Alabama teaching certificate
- Valid Alabama driver’s license.
- At least three (3) years administrative experience required.
- Must meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or
certification/licensure
under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999
and Act No. 2002-457.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications
as the board may
find appropriate and acceptable.

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Demonstrated skills in the area of student services.
- Knowledge of current trends and practices in elementary and secondary
education.
- Ability to supervise and evaluate personnel assigned to the area of outreach.
- Skills in problem solving.
- Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal forms.
- Knowledge of Board policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of federal and state laws relative to student services.
- Physical mobility and visual acuity to visit schools and work sites.
- Knowledge of Building Based Student Support Team.
- Knowledge of Section 504.
- Ability to be efficient and effective with Microsoft Office Programs such as Word, Excel, Publisher and Access.
- Knowledge and ability to use various forms of education technology.
- Knowledge of board and State Department policies and procedures for the administration of all assessments.
- Physical mobility and visual acuity to visit schools and classrooms for the improvement of programs.
Essential functions:
- Administers and facilitates safety services for the school system.
- Assists the instructional program in the school system’s Alternative Learning Programs.
- Coordinates and supervises the BBSST Program guidelines and procedures, including communication.
- Assists in securing grants for the system in the area of student services to enhance and/or expand services and programs for students.
- Serves as co-chairperson for the System-wide Discipline Committee for the school system.
- Monitors and supervises incoming day to day calls.
- Interprets the school system’s objectives to students, parents and the community at large.
- Assists in the communication process between parents, students, teachers and administrators.
- Promotes and encourages family involvement in the education of students.
- Coordinates and supervises the Section 504 Program guidelines and procedures, including communication.
- Keep schools informed of the various community agencies that concern themselves with student services.
- Acts as a liaison between administrators and parents to enhance communication and understanding of the procedures and process of student services.
- Identifies, plans, and assists in providing services for special population students.
- Adheres to federal, state, local and Board rules and regulations.
- Performs other tasks as may be required.
- Assists with program evaluations and strategic planning for the school system's secondary and elementary programs.
Terms of employment:
Salary and length of contract to be determined by the Board of Education.
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Certified and Professional Personnel (GBI).
