Director of Student Services

Job Goal:

To assist and support school personnel, the instructional program and the home in helping students fulfill their learning potential, and parents to be involved in that process.

Qualifications:

  1. Master's degree in administration.
  2. Administration and/or supervision certification preferred.
  3. A valid Alabama teaching certificate
  4. Valid Alabama driver’s license.
  5. At least three (3) years administrative experience required.
  6. Must meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
  7. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Assistant Superintendent of General Administration

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

  1. Demonstrated skills in the area of student services.
  2. Knowledge of current trends and practices in elementary and secondary education.
  3. Ability to supervise and evaluate personnel assigned to the area of outreach.
  4. Skills in problem solving.
  5. Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal forms.
  6. Knowledge of Board policies and procedures.
  7. Knowledge of federal and state laws relative to student services.
  8. Physical mobility and visual acuity to visit schools and work sites.
  9. Knowledge of Building Based Student Support Team.
  10. Knowledge of Section 504.
  11. Ability to be efficient and effective with Microsoft Office Programs such as Word, Excel, Publisher and Access.
  12. Knowledge and ability to use various forms of education technology.
  13. Knowledge of board and State Department policies and procedures for the administration of all assessments.
  14. Physical mobility and visual acuity to visit schools and classrooms for the improvement of programs.

Essential functions:

  1. Administers and facilitates safety services for the school system.
  2. Assists the instructional program in the school system’s Alternative Learning Programs.
  3. Coordinates and supervises the BBSST Program guidelines and procedures, including communication.
  4. Assists in securing grants for the system in the area of student services to enhance and/or expand services and programs for students.
  5. Serves as co-chairperson for the System-wide Discipline Committee for the school system.
  6. Monitors and supervises incoming day to day calls.
  7. Interprets the school system’s objectives to students, parents and the community at large.
  8. Assists in the communication process between parents, students, teachers and administrators.
  9. Promotes and encourages family involvement in the education of students.
  10. Coordinates and supervises the Section 504 Program guidelines and procedures, including communication.
  11. Keep schools informed of the various community agencies that concern themselves with student services.
  12. Acts as a liaison between administrators and parents to enhance communication and understanding of the procedures and process of student services.
  13. Identifies, plans, and assists in providing services for special population students.
  14. Adheres to federal, state, local and Board rules and regulations.
  15. Performs other tasks as may be required.
  16. Assists with program evaluations and strategic planning for the school system's secondary and elementary programs.

Terms of employment:

Salary and length of contract to be determined by the Board of Education.

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Certified and Professional Personnel (GBI).
