Grounds Helper

Qualifications for the position:

  1. High school diploma or GED with knowledge of the procedures, practices, tools and equipment used in ground maintenance.
  2. Posses a valid Alabama driver's license.

Duties and responsibilities are as follows:

  1. Help with installation, repair and renovation
  2. Installation, repair and renovation of some playground equipment. Including metal and wood equipment.
  3. Removing of snow and ice from roadways, parking lots ramps and walkways.
  4. Participates in the lying of asphalt and repair of driveways, parking lots, walkways and ramps, etc.
  5. Participates in the moving and placement of temporary buildings and trailers.
  6. Cutting and planting of lawns, trees, and shrubs.
  7. Lays pipe, digs ditches, trenches, and post holes.
  8. Moving and transporting furniture books misc. items from schools.
  9. Ability to move, load and unload equipment and supplies weighing 35 pounds and heavier.
  10. Operates a variety of gasoline and diesel-powered tractors, front-end loaders, trailers, backhoes, bulldozers, mowers and weeders.
  11. Operates a variety of trucks in the performance of construction and/or maintenance work.
  12. Performs routine truck, tractor, and mechanical equipment maintenance.
  13. Maintain daily maintenance logs and work reports indicating time and materials used.
  14. Be responsible for all equipment, vehicles, tools and other equipment.
  15. Assist other trades in areas related to overall maintenance of the school system when assigned.
  16. Assume other reasonable and equitable job-related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
