Painter
Qualifications for the position:
- High School diploma or GED with eight years of verified experience
as a painter, of which 4 years must be at the assistant level
or the equivalent.
- Have written verification of 3 years of assistant level experience
or the equivalent in a school system maintenance department as
a painter.
- May be required to work an evening swing shift on a regular
or rotating basis.
- Possess a valid Alabama drivers license.
Duties and responsibilities are as follows:
- Paints a variety of interior and exterior surfaces of buildings
such as walls, ceilings, doors, windows, baseboards, handrails,
flag poles, etc.
- Scrapes, sands, and otherwise prepares surfaces; applies stain
and prime, intermediate and finished coats of shellac, varnish,
and paint with brush, roller, or spray gun.
- Uses ladders, scaffolds, and bucket trucks to reach surfaces
to be painted as required; protects surrounding areas or objects
by taping or covering; moves furniture and other objects and takes
down and replaces blinds to facilitate work.
- Ensures proper maintenance of brushes, rollers, and other equipment.
- Lays out and paint lines on playgrounds, athletic courts, and
parking lots; uses stencils to paint signs on black top and curbs.
- Apply knowledge of occupational hazards and safety regulations
to work performed.
- Maintain daily maintenance logs and work reports indicating
time and materials used.
- Be responsible for all equipment, vehicles, tools and other
equipment.
- Assist with the movement of portable classrooms.
- Assist other trades in areas related to overall maintenance
of the school system when assigned.
- Assume other reasonable and equitable job-related duties as
assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Job goal:
To maintain the exterior and interior finishes of schools, furniture,
and other surfaces in the school system.
