Plumber Assistant

Qualifications for the position:

  1. High School diploma or GED with completion of an approved plumber's apprenticeship program, or completion of a trade or technical school program in plumbing, or verified proof of 4 years plumbing experience, or written verification of 3 years experience as a helper.
  2. Possess a valid Alabama driver's license.

Duties and responsibilities are as follows:

  1. Check and maintain generators, overhaul motors, temperature recorders, calibrate pressure gauges, meters, and similar devices; checking all indicating instruments periodically to know the functioning of each unit and minor electrical repair.
  2. Consult with outside contractors and employees of other state agencies regarding design, alteration and repair, and purchase recommendations of mechanical equipment.
  3. Establish operating standards and procedures for equipment within the limitations of assigned temperature requirements.
  4. Perform limited welding asks as needed.
  5. Maintain daily maintenance logs and work reports indicating time and materials used.
  6. Be responsible for all equipment, vehicles, tools and other equipment.
  7. Assist with the movement of portable classrooms.
  8. Assist other trades in areas related to overall maintenance of the school system when assigned.
  9. Assume other reasonable and equitable job-related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
