School Improvement Coordinator
The School Improvement Coordinator is defined as one whose primary concern is the improvement of learning opportunities through the provisions of instructional leadership. The coordinator is a non-PEPE evaluator who focuses on coaching teachers and school leaders in using quality tools for data driven results. The coordinator is charged with the responsibility for planning, implementing, and evaluating the instructional program relevant to the needs of the student population in a particular school and the system continuing improvement plan and professional development plan. The coordinator provides technical assistance and training in the areas of instructional implications for all subgroups in linking evaluation data to instructional planning and modifying instructional delivery to meet learning differences.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree or above from an accredited college or university
- Valid Alabama certification in administration/supervision
- Valid Alabama driver’s license
- Minimum of five-years (5) successful experience as a teacher and/or administrator
- Successful experience with working with academically at-risk students
- Must meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board my find appropriate and acceptable

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Knowledge of curriculum development, supervision, effective classroom practices and staff development principles
- Knowledge and expertise in scientifically based strategies and instruction
- Ability to demonstrate effective leadership skills
- Ability to be efficient and effective with Microsoft Office Programs such as Word, Excel, Publisher and Access
- Ability to communicate effectively either verbally or in writing (including e-mail)
- Knowledge of board policies and procedures
- Ability to use effective public relations skills necessary for the successful implementation of assessment programs, the coordination of committees and
collaborative groups and maintain productive relationships among colleagues as well as those supervised
- Knowledge and ability to use various forms of education technology
- Knowledge of board and State Department policies and procedures for the administration of all assessments
- Physical mobility and visual acuity to visit schools and classrooms for the improvement of programs
Essential functions:
- Assists the Principal in advocating, facilitating, and monitoring strategies that improve student achievement
- Serves as a resource person and provides instructional support to use information resources and interventions that improves student achievement
- Provides instructional leadership that guides all activities toward the highest student achievement
- Aligns the curriculum, instruction, and assessments to the Alabama State Standards and the Tuscaloosa City Schools’ goals and objectives
- Communicates to parents of progress toward school/classroom goals
- Develops and implements a School Action for Excellence Plan that is aligned to the District’s Strategic Plan
- 7. Allocates the time and resources of the schools and system to the goals and objectives of the School Action for Excellence Plan
- Communicates information on issues, needs, and district initiatives that support school/classroom goals
- Uses comparison, trend, and benchmark data to drive instruction and assess the rate of school/classroom improvement
- Develops information systems to routinely monitor school/classroom results that guide improvement efforts
- Supports the use of cooperative approaches in teaching, learning, and decision-making processes
- Develops and utilizes plans to recognize contributions toward achieving school/classroom goals
- Trains and educates teachers and students to use key classroom processes as defined by research based practices
- Facilitates and monitors the level of student/teacher involvement in the teaching and learning process
- Orients new teachers, teacher assistants, substitutes, and volunteers
- Monitors the systematic processes used to implement student achievement strategies
- Facilitates and monitors the delivery and improvement of the teaching and learning processes in collaboration with the Curriculum and Instruction Division
- Facilitates and monitors the use of the best practices in the alignment of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and improvement
- Adheres to federal, state, local and board rules and regulations.
- Takes leave time in accordance with Board policy and reports all absences to SubFinder in a timely manner.
- Assumes other reasonable and equitable job-related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Terms of employment:
The terms of employment shall be in accordance with provisions of the Board’s Policy Manual, Alabama Teacher Tenure Act and the Board’s Salary Schedule – Principal Salary Schedule.
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Certified and Professional Personnel (GBI).
