Secretary for Public Relations

Qualifications

  1. High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  2. At least three (3) years secretarial experience. .

Public Relations Coordinator

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

  1. Ability to use word processing programs on a typewriter or computer.
  2. Ability to use a 3-key adding machine, copier and 3M reader printer.
  3. Demonstrated ability to type at 50 words per minute is preferred.
  4. Ability to use friendly, pleasant, courteous and helpful telephone demeanor.
  5. Ability to work under the pressure of deadlines and adjust to new situations.
  6. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  7. Ability to organize and maintain accurate records.
  8. Ability to use excellent business English, grammar, spelling and punctuation.
  9. Be capable of moving and lifting moderately heavy weights.
  10. Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in a fast-paced, high-intensive work environment.

Essential functions:

  1. Assists with all correspondence related to public relations.
  2. Assists with scheduling activities/documents related to public relations:
    • meeting places for all activities related to public relations;
    • a current notebook for all public relations.
  3. Performs the following duties:
    • letter-writing and typing;
    • compiling and typing reports that may be assigned;
    • keeping up-to-date files;
    • preparing memoranda and press releases;
    • keeping an accurate inventory of materials and supplies;
    • maintaining accurate and up-to-date lists of media contacts and their addresses and telephone numbers.
  4. Projects a good personal and telephone image of the program through contacts with all central office personnel, principals, teachers, state department personnel, vendors, community persons, Board of Education members and parents. Be informed, courteous and helpful in personal and telephone contacts.
  5. Performs other duties as may be assigned.

Terms of employment

The terms of employment shall be in accordance with the provisions of the Board's Policy Manual, Fair Dismissal Act of Alabama and the Board's Salary Schedule - Central Office Administrative Support - Grade III.

Evaluation

Performance evaluation shall be in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel - GCRK and GCRK - R.
