PERSONAL LEAVES AND ABSENCES FOR
ADMINISTRATIVE AND SUPERVISORY PERSONNEL
All administrative and supervisory personnel may have three (3)
days of personal leave annually. The three days of personal leave
per year are noncumulative, and each person using personal leave
will have the cost of a substitute teacher deducted from the monthly
salary.
In addition to the three (3) days of personal leave provided annually
to professional staff members and school secretary as stated above,
each certified teacher and other certified staff member shall be
entitled to two (2) days of non-cumulative paid personal leave annually,
to be granted upon the request of the teacher or staff member.
- Personal leave may not be taken during the first or last week
of school or immediately before or after a holiday unless special
permission is granted by both the principal and the superintendent.
- Teachers and other staff members shall be expected to notify
principals in advance of taking personal leave, although it is
recognized that advance notification may not always be possible.
The 'Personal Leave Notice" should be completed by all persons
who take personal leave.
- Since funding for the two (2) days of paid personal leave is
based upon the school system's number of earned teacher units,
a teacher or staff member's annual entitlement to the paid leave
is not fully gained unless the teacher or staff member serves
throughout the school year. Although the amended policy of the
Tuscaloosa City Board of Education provides that the paid personal
leave may be taken during any month of the school term, a teacher
or staff member who serves one semester or less during a school
year shall be entitled to only one day of paid leave, while the
additional day of paid personal leave would be available to the
person who replaced the teacher or staff member.
