GRADING SYSTEM
Grades should represent student achievement, not a composite
of qualities such as effort, preparation, application or attitude.
However, it is recognized that these factors do influence the learning
process and achievement.
Each teacher is expected to determine the weighted value of
individual grades on tests, papers, projects, and other learning/evaluative
exercises and to assign grades within accepted standards as stated
below. Academic grades should not be used as punishment for misbehavior
nor as a reward for good behavior. Behavior is reflected in conduct
grades at the elementary and middle school levels.

At all levels both parent conferences and report cards
are integral parts of the grading system. The report card is a mechanism
for reporting student achievement and the conference is a means
of expanding upon this communication.
All students, Grades 8 - 12, will be required to take semester
examinations. The semester examination grade will count as 25% of
the semester grade. Each semester examination will be comprehensive
and will be designed for no less than the time period of one-and-one-half
hours.
