HOMEWORK

Homework is an assignment or activity to be completed outside the classroom that facilitates student achievement and reinforces the concepts and skills taught in the classroom. The Tuscaloosa City Board of Education views homework as an important and beneficial part of the student's total educational program.

The teacher as a professional has the following responsibilities:

    • To identify specific objectives when assigning homework
    • To use experience and judgment when determining length and frequency of homework
    • To determine the most appropriate acknowledgment and feedback for activities assigned.

However, the overall homework process shall not be excessive, thereby preventing the student's participation in activities that lead to his becoming a well-rounded individual. Homework should encourage individual research, self-discipline, and the productive organization of time. Homework activities can utilize resources not available in the classroom setting and can allow for creative expression.
