STUDENT ENROLLMENT (FULL-TIME)
It is the policy of the Tuscaloosa City Board of Education
(Board) that all students enrolling in Tuscaloosa City Schools
must do so on all full-time basis. Full-time basis shall be defined
as attending classes for the full instructional day within the
public school system or in conjunction with another state accredited
institution such as a postsecondary college or university for dual
enrollment. The only exceptions to this policy shall be for fifth-year
seniors, special education students whose Individual Education
Programs require variations of student schedules, and those exceptions
made at the discretion of the Superintendent.
An individual entering kindergarten must be five (5) years
old on or before September 2nd. An individual enrolling in
school for the first time must present an official birth certificate
principal
prior to enrollment.
Any underage individual who transfers to Alabama from a school
in another state may be admitted to school with the approval
of the Board. Similarly, any underage individual who has
moved to
Alabama after completing a mandated kindergarten program
in another state may be admitted to first grade in this
state.
Pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K) Enrollment
Enrollment for Pre-K classes is limited to students who are
four (4) years old on or before September 2nd and who meet
the school system’s definition of academically at-risk. Academically
at-risk status is determined by the administration of the Developmental
Indicators for the Assessment of Learning - 3rd Edition (DIAL3)
by school system personnel prior to the opening of school. Students
who score below the 50th percentile in either Language or Concepts
are considered academically at-risk and will be given first priority
for Pre-K enrollment.
