Student Services

  • Tuscaloosa City Schools is committed to providing a safe and orderly environment for students and employees; therefore, the Office of Student Services is responsible for all student disciplinary matters including hearings for elementary, middle, and high school students and in school intervention as well as alternative placements.


    Additionally, this department is responsible for coordinating services under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, homebound services for general education students, positive behavior support, and crisis management training. The department also coordinates all reports and investigations of bullying in the district and coordinates the district wide anti-bullying program called Harassment Awareness/Learning Together (HALT).


    In an effort to combat out of school suspensions the department also developed the Helping Education/Linking Parents (HELP) which is a collaboration with the City of Tuscaloosa and the Tuscaloosa County District's Attorney's office. The HELP program received the MAGNA award from the American School Board Association for "best practices'' in education.
