Ensuring All Students Are Reading Before Third Grade
Reading is foundational to success in life. That's why the Tuscaloosa City Schools is focusing intently on ensuring all students are reading before third grade.
The RB3 Initiative is established to provide a collective community effort to improve outcomes for all children in the City of Tuscaloosa.
The 3rd Grade reading proficiency is 39% (2016 as measured by ACT Aspire). Within this 39% proficiency is a large achievement gap between white students and African-American students.
Students who struggle in reading will not be as successful in their learning after third grade.
A strong, organized and shared community initiative with a focus on reading will have an educational impact on our students and an economic impact on our community.
