    Questions about Returning to School? Here are the Answers You may be Looking for!

     

    1. Are you looking for information about when school will start and if it will be virtual or in-person instruction?

     

    School will begin on Thursday, August 20th with virtual instruction to begin the first nine weeksOpen House will be held Tuesday, September 8, 2020 (times and specifics to be announced at a later date). Meet & Greet Information listed below in (Question 3)

    2. Who will be your child's teacher?


    Postcards were sent out by your child’s teacher welcoming the students to their classroom.  Teachers have made phone calls to share information about Meet & Greet. In the event we haven’t been able to reach you, we will provide "drive by" assistance Monday-Wednesday (8:30 am-3:00 pm). There will be assistants with a table outside to answer questions about class rolls, usernames/passwords and pass out flyers to assist in a smooth start-up transition for you and your family. This "drive by" will not take the place of Meet & Greet but will serve as an additional opportunity to assist you with answers to questions you may have. Just simply pull up to the front door and assistants will come out and provide you with the information you need.

    3. When is Meet & Greet? 

    We are excited about reconnecting with all of our "Happy Campers "our new theme, Camp Learn-a-Lot, for the 2020-2021 school year! The teachers have scheduled a Meet & Greet Schedule (listed below). Please note, some teachers will have an in-person Meet & Greet and others will have a virtual Meet & Greet using Google Meet.  Please be on the look-out for a postcard welcoming your child to their classroom. Teachers are calling parents to share more information and necessary codes to join a virtual Google Meet.

     ***In-person Meet & Greets on a scheduled/staggered basis*** Students may bring their school supplies to the Meet & Greet. (Scroll to the very bottom of the page for the school supply lists for each grade level).

    ***Virtual Meet & Greet classrooms may contact their teacher for a time to drop supplies off.

    Meet & Greet Schedules by Grade Level/Classroom:

    PreK:

    Mrs.Hajek’s PreK class will meet in-person on Thursday, August 19th from 8:45-11:00. The parents have been contacted and are aware of their child’s 15 minute slot. 

    Mrs. Minor & Ms. Berry’s Pre-K classes will meet in-person from 8:00-9:30 on Wednesday, August 19th. They will also have two students every 15 minutes during these times. 

    Ms. Dennis's PreK class will meet in-person on Wednesday, August 19th from 8:00-11:00 with specific 15 minute time slots for each child.  

     Kindergarten: 

    Ms. White’s Kindergarten class will host meet & greet virtually through a Google Meet on Tuesday, August 18th from 1:00-3:00 pm.

    Mrs.Thomas’s Kindergarten class will meet virtually on Wednesday, August 19th from 9:00-9:30 am.

    Mrs. Dedrick’s Kindergarten class will meet virtually on August 19th  from 10:00-10:30 am.

    Mrs. Steiner’s Kindergarten class will meet virtually on August 19th from 10:00-10:30 am or 1:00-1:30

    First Grade:

    Mrs. Landers’s First Grade class will have a virtual meet and greet on the morning of August 19th from 9-9:30 am or during an afternoon session from 5:30-6:00 pm.

    Ms. Bohon’s First Grade class will meet virtually on August 19th from 9:00-:9:30 am or from 5:30-6:00 pm.

    Mrs. Matherson’s First Grade class will have a virtual meet and greet on August 19th from 9:00-9:30 am or during the afternoon session from 5:30-6:00 pm.

    Second Grade: 

    Mrs. Hick’s second grade will meet virtually on August 18th via Google Meet at 9:00 am or 1:00 pm. 

    Mrs. Allen’s second grade will meet virtually on August 18th from 9:00-9:30 amor from 1:00-1:30 pm.

    Mrs. Armour’s second grade will meet virtually on August 18th from 9:00-9:30 am or from 1:00-1:30 pm.

    Ms. Boswell’s second grade will meet virtually on August 18th from 9:00-9:30 am or from 1:00-1:30 pm.

    Third Grade:

    Mrs. Plott’s third grade will meet in-person on Monday, August 17th from 1:00-1:30 pm.

    Ms. Beistel’s 3rd grade will meet virtually on August 18th from 9:30-10:00 am or from 1:30-2:00 pm.

    Ms. Skelton’s 3rd grade will meet in-person on Monday, August 17th from 9:00-11:30 am.

    Fourth Grade:

    The fourth grade level will meet in-person on Tuesday, August 18th beginning at 9:00 am with staggered 10 minutes sessions throughout the day. Teachers are calling each parent to schedule a time.

    Fifth Grade:

    Mrs. Ford's Fifth Grade will meet virtually on Monday, August 17th from 2:00-2:30 pm.

    Mrs. Robertson's 5th Grade will meet virtually on Monday, August 17th from 2:00-2:30 pm.

     

    4. When will I hear about device distribution? What will be the procedure for picking the device up? Will there be any paperwork involved? Who do I contact in the event that I haven’t requested a device and need one? 

     Device Distribution:

    Device distribution is set to occur Tuesday, August 18, 2020. Please listen for a phone call announcing specifics about the distribution process.  This distribution will be for students that have requested a device over the summer months. We have had representatives from the school calling all of the parents over the summer with a questionnaire regarding device availability and needs in homes (chrome books and hotspots). Parents will pull through the carpool line and turn right to the library and gym side of the building to pick up devices.  There will be tables set up and some paperwork to fill out. More details to come on this...so stay tuned!!

    Damaged/Lost or Stolen Device?  

    In the event your device is broken or not working properly, please fill out this form to make a report. We will assist you as soon as possible or you can contact through email: tlittle@tusc.k12.al.us.

     

    5. What do I do prior to the first day of school (August 20th) to make sure my child can begin promptly on the first day?

    • Make sure you have received your child's username and password to login to Classlinks and Schoology (more information below about these two programs). In the event you try to login and cannot get the username and password to work, please 1) fill out this form so that someone can get in touch with you asap to resolve this issue.  2) Other courses of action to take would be to call the school office (205) 759-3567 and ask for extension #1301 or #1302. 3)You may always email your child's teacher or send a message through Class Dojo, etc. to keep them aware of any problems. We are here for you and will gladly assist you promptly.
    • Make sure you have a device that is working properly with internet access working properly.
    • Make sure you are aware of the class schedule and try to  follow the schedule the teacher provides for daily instruction. We understand that things will come up, but please always keep the teacher in the loop. 
    • Have a trial run practicing logging in and making sure equipment is running properly prior to the start date of August 20th.

     

     

    ClassLink:

     

    ClassLink is TCS’s one-stop location for online learning resources. It allows students to access a wide variety of digital resources. The URL is linked on the district web page and is at https://launchpad.classlink.com/tuscaloosa .  Students can access their launchpad using their username & password. 

    To access ClassLink from home, students should, 

    • Go to the URL https://launchpad.classlink.com/tuscaloosa
    • Enter their district username and password. Click on the desired learning resource to begin exploring. To search for an app you need to use (Schoology-daily), go to the top of the Classlink page and look for the gray bar with the magnifying glass and type in Schoology to search.

    We understand it may not be a simple task at first, so please continue to reach out for support. In the event you try to login and cannot get the username and password to work, please 1) fill out this form so that someone can get in touch with you asap to resolve this issue.  2) Other courses of action to take would be to call the school office (205) 759-3567 and ask for extension #1301 or #1302. 3) Always let your teacher know.

    Schoology:

    Schoology is our new Learning Management System and Virtual Classroom for our our students.  Click for additional resources and the Schoology 411. 

     

     

    6. What do I do if my child had library books checked out in the Spring and I need to return them?

    There will be a recycling bin outside of the school labeled for returned library books.  Simply place them in the bin in the front of the school and we will follow protocol for safely returning them into the library collection.
