Three-Year Progression

Paul W. Bryant High Three-Year Progression
  • Great things are happening at Paul W. Bryant High School. While there is more work to be done, our current plan works to create a supportive culture of high expectations for all students. We work to build relationships with our families and stakeholders. Our team works relentlessly to improve academic achievement and enrichment through quality instruction for all students because preparing students for post-secondary career opportunities is key to high school success. We are here to help students reach their highest potential for college and career readiness through innovation, an inclusive environment, and quality instruction.

  • Strengths

    • For four consecutive years, the PWBHS MCJROTC Program has been recognized as a Naval Honor School. This designation is a distinction bestowed upon the nation’s top programs for exemplary performance. In general terms, it means that the program is one of the top 10 schools in its region, which includes Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee and the Carolinas; and is in the top 20% of all schools nationwide.

    • We are the home to West Alabama's only Fine Arts Academy serving over 150 talented fine arts students. We also provide fine arts options in theatre, dance, band, orchestra, choir, visual arts, and commercial music. As the Tuscaloosa City School's Fine Arts Academy, we have the most expansive arts education in the area.

    • We offer 19 junior varsity and varsity athletic programs. We were the 2017 6A Basketball Champions. We are ranked third in our Area division in football with multiple playoff appearances. Our track and field team continues to thrive from a 2013 State Outdoor Championship and a 2019 State Outdoor Champion. Our student athletes annually sign athletic scholarships to colleges and universities.

    • We are building a true culture of reading with whole-school collaboration and support for growing the literacy skills of our students. Beyond the classroom instruction, the support for literacy includes the collaboration of a highly impactful library program, effective literacy coach, and reading interventionist.

    • Our Guidance Department, which includes a graduation coach and a NBCT, is responsible for the goal of ensuring that 100% of graduating seniors have a post-secondary plan. Their national model ensures that seniors leave high school with a plan for their future. Dual Enrollment, Early College, Internship, U.S. Military Academy and Fine Arts Academy opportunities have assisted students with securing millions of dollars in academic scholarship funding.

  • Opportunities

    • We have a school-wide focus on reading and math for our 9th and 10th grade. Teachers utilize tiered teaching, assessments, library resources, and reading and math software to provide individualized instruction to improve reading and math skills.

    • Our focus on helping our students achieve their futures continues with efforts to increase our 11th grade's ACT Scores. After school and weekend ACT Prep tutoring is offered to our students while target ACT instruction in all 11th grade core classes.

    • We want our graduates to leave us fully prepared for their next step. We are creating and supporting multiple paths to college and career credentialing. Test preparation for ACT WorkKeys, growing Dual Enrollment and AP programs, the outstanding MCJROTC program, and multiple Ready to Work classes are just some of the avenues we have created to provide a pathway to credentials for our students
