About TASPA

Providing each child with the opportunity to reach full potential

  • Student Engagement

The Alberta School of Performing Arts (TASPA) offers K-8 students a curriculum that places the visual and performing arts at the center of student learning. The school embraces a transdisciplinary model of education with a focus on developing creativity and critical thinking skills. At The Alberta School of Performing Arts, the arts serve as tools in constructing the academic, artistic and social growth of students.

In addition to meeting standards of the TCS curriculum, TASPA students in the primary grades K-3 receive regular exposure to a variety of art forms including dance, theatre, visual art and music. Students attending TASPA in the intermediate grades 4 and 5 begin to focus on a particular art form as they expand their creative abilities. Middle school students in grades 6-8 experience a deep immersion in their fine arts specialties in addition to a rigorous, arts-infused core curriculum.

  • Serving Our Youngest Learners

Two pre-K classrooms serve 36 children and families in the Alberta community. Office of Student Readiness classrooms provide high-quality early childhood experiences to prepare students for future academic success.

  • Unique Opportunities

TASPA was awarded a 21st Century Community Learning Center after-school program grant which began January 2018. Students are engaged in STEAM activities and other project-based opportunities.

  • Community Partnerships

Students grow and cultivate vegetables within a community garden. Hands-on learning activities promote nutrition, as well as math and science life skills. Each semester culminates with a farm stand which provides fresh vegetables to residents within the school community. Additionally, students and teachers are supported through the Adopt-A-School program by the following organizations: Bryant Bank, Tuscaloosa County Medical Society & Alliance, and College Hills Baptist Church.

  • Specialized Learning Environment

TASPA is a state of the art K-8 Performing Arts facility built in 2015. It includes a 300- seat theater, dance studio, piano lab and other spaces dedicated to the performing arts. Students participate in meaningful theatre, music, dance and visual arts productions for our school and the community.
