    Tuscaloosa Magnet Schools - Middle has 168 students in grades 6-8. We are an International Baccalaureate World School and a 2017 National Blue Ribbon School. We teach our students to discover knowledge, to create new ideas, and to serve the community. Academic achievement is a priority, and critical thinking is the avenue to reach our goals. We emphasize that students are engaged in a challenging curriculum, in meaningful relationships and in supportive services that guide them to be leaders.

  • Diverse Curriculum

    All students participate in a music class (strings or band), art, design and Spanish. There are no electives. The IB curriculum requires that all students receive music, art, design, foreign language, physical education and the four core classes.

  • Service Learning

    All 8th grade students complete the International Baccalaureate Passion Project which enables students to serve the community and share their talents with others.

  • Student Advocacy

    We have a family atmosphere where students feel free to talk to all teachers and the counselor. Class meetings are held to discuss issues; students serve as guides during school visits and the student council is an important voice of the school.

  • Team Concept

    Goals are set to consider all talents of students and their learning styles. Clubs offer activities that develop interests from gardening to drama. Students must collaborate and cooperate in their groups as they problem-solve and plan the activities.
