Meet the Ambassadors
Rachel Goggins
Rachel Goggins began working in the Tuscaloosa City Schools in 2013 as a first grade teacher at Woodland Forrest Elementary School. After six years teaching kindergarten and first grade, she transitioned into a literacy coach role at Oakdale Elementary School. In August 2021, Rachel returned to Woodland Forrest to follow her passion of serving as a kindergarten teacher. She holds a bachelors degree in early childhood special education from the University of Alabama and is currently in pursuit of an educational leadership masters degree from UA. She earned National Board Certification in Literacy: Reading/Language Arts for Early and Middle Childhood in December 2019 and currently serves as an ambassador for the Alabama NBCT Network. She is passionate about supporting educator's journeys to achieving National Board Certification, mentoring new teachers, recruiting and retaining excellent educators, and elevating the teaching profession. Rachel is the chaplain of Alpha Delta Kappa’s Zeta Chapter and serves in the youth ministry at Calvary Baptist Church. Rachel is always ready to have deep conversations about Beyoncé, racial reconciliation, and the science of reading. When she isn’t teaching kindergarten, Rachel spends her time traveling to concerts, listening to pop culture podcasts, cheering for the Alabama Crimson Tide and the San Antonio Spurs, or reading a good novel near a body of water.
I love working in the TCS because: of the incredible opportunities that I have been afforded for professional growth. The support provided to me by the system and my amazing colleagues helped me to successfully achieve National Board Certification and gives me the courage to continue challening myself to better serve the students and families of the TCS.
