The Tuscaloosa City Schools is committed to ensuring that all students are reading before third grade. But addressing the achievement gap and literacy issues will take community support.
If you or your organization would like to make a difference in the lives of students and in our community, become a Book Buddy!
This program began in Fall 2017 as a volunteer reading program at select elementary schools to provide additional support after-school for students in need.
Volunteers are provided training to support them in helping struggling readers. The lessons will be planned and materials will be ready. You will listen to your student read, play phonics games, and help them with writing activities. Simple. In and out in one hour.
We invite local businesses to consider sending employees during work hours to tutor. If you cannot give time, please consider a donation to Reading Allies to purchase books designed for struggling readers. Have questions? View Reading Allies FAQs.
