HELP Program
Helping Education/ Linking Parents (H.E.L.P.) is a collaboration between Tuscaloosa City Schools, City of Tuscaloosa, and the Tuscaloosa County District Attorney’s Office has been formed to establish an early warning discipline program for the district. The intent of the early warning program will be to help decrease the number of disciplinary infractions and make a positive impact on our dropout prevention.
School Level Support: The goal of the Helping Education /Linking Parents (H.E.L.P.) is to be proactive and preventive of disciplinary infractions that require out of school suspensions. Administrators and teachers model and teach behavior expectations in all settings to encourage appropriate behavior. In addition, parents are sent a letter by the principal the first time the student is suspended out of school.
The letter encourages parents to discuss the incident that resulted in an out of school suspension in an effort to ensure it doesn’t happen again. The school also refers the student to a Check and Connect program after the first suspension for additional support. District and Community Support: Through the leadership of the superintendent and the mayor, a new partnership was created with the City of Tuscaloosa and the Tuscaloosa County District Attorney’s office.
