Special Olympics
The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-style sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, and other Special Olympians.
Special Olympics Unified SportsĀ® is an inclusive sports program that combines an approximately equal number of Special Olympics athletes (individuals with intellectual disabilities) and partners (individuals without intellectual disabilities) on teams for training and competition.
The Special Olympics Unified Sports program promotes social inclusion through shared sport training and competition experiences for individuals with and without intellectual disabilities. Unified Sports has proven to be highly effective in achieving social inclusion. Athletes feel a sense of belonging; they can meaningfully interact with others, develop mutually rewarding relationships, and are recognized as contributors that are received with acceptance and respect.
At TCS we have a rich, successful tradition in Special Olympics. We have many State, National and even World Championships. TCS is always striving to provide opportunities for our students to compete at the Area and State levels in sports like Volleyball, Basketball, Aquatics, Track & Field, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Golf, Badminton and Bowling.
