Continuing & Enhancing Opportunities for TCS Students
While the Tuscaloosa City Schools has served generations of our community’s children, we must continue to ensure we meet the needs of our current and future students. District leaders and the Board of Education have engaged our community in a process to examine the district’s needs, develop a list of priorities, and find the best possible solution for our schools and community moving forward.
As a result of these efforts, the Board of Education is proposing an 11.5-mill increase to the property tax rate through a referendum question that would appear on the August 2024 ballot. If voters approve the referendum, TCS will have the resources necessary to continue delivering a top-quality educational experience to our students, now and in the years to come.
Driven by Community Input
Through a series of input sessions in 2023, parents and guardians, educators, staff, and community members provided their input and helped set goals and priorities for TCS. Our community identified three top priorities for our district:
-
Educator Excellence: Recruitment, retention, compensation, development and support for all staff members.
-
Premier Student Programs & Services: Optimize positive student outcomes and opportunities.
-
School Safety & Security: Prioritize the well-being and safety of students and staff members.
Based on this input, the TCS Board of Education is proposing a 11.5-mill increase to the property tax rate in our community.
Community input will continue to drive the process for the district and board’s planning efforts. We encourage our community to stay involved and engaged in this critical effort!
