Learn more about Success Prep Academy
Success Prep Academy (formerly Oak Hill School) is a specialty school within the Tuscaloosa City School district. We currently house two programs: (1) The Accelerated Program, a year-long program that provides students with the opportunity to earn high school credits for courses that normally have a year-long duration in a semester, and (2) The Alternative Program, a transient program for students who have committed Class 3 behavioral offenses. We strive to meet the needs of our students through a series of academic supports and wrap-around services. Our vision is to foster an atmosphere of high expectations, motivation, and innovation in an effort to move students toward meeting their individual goals. Our commitment to this vision ensures that students are exposed to research-based interventions strategies. Success Prep Academy has received both national and state recognition. Success Prep is a National Magna Award winner for its Accelerated Program.
Developing Productive CitizensWe are seeking to help students become productive citizens within our community. As a result, Success Prep Academy is partnering with the Tuscaloosa Police Department to develop the Teen and Police Service Academy. Police Officers will mentor students weekly during the school day. Additionally, our JAG (Jobs for America's Graduates) program, equips students with college- and career-readiness skills upon graduation.
Building LeadersSuccess Prep Academy engages students and builds leadership through student-led community service, student-led meetings, and student clubs. Students volunteer and assist others in the community. They also participate in a variety of group activities while at school.
Students in our program receive specialized instruction from certified teachers and paraprofessionals. In addition to classroom instruction, students receive speech therapy, music therapy, creative writing skill preparation, and transition services through various community partnerships.
Closing The Achievement Gap
We are focusing heavily on improving the reading achievement for students in grades 8 and 10. We are currently using a reading program called READ 180. The program is designed to help students better understand and remember what they read on a daily basis.
