Learn more about Oakdale Elementary School

  • Friendly Oakdale students Oakdale Elementary is not just a school building. It is a community of students, families, teachers, volunteers and Adopt-A-School partners. Oakdale students and families are part of the Leader in Me program developing our community leaders of tomorrow. Here at Oakdale students have exceptional opportunities to learn through our Global Communications program. This program is an expansion of our nationally recognized student-produced newsletter, The Oakdale Eagle. Students will explore areas such as public speaking, graphic design, broadcasting, and journalism. We have partnered with Dr. George Daniels and The University of Alabama’s College of Communication and Information Sciences to assist us with this endeavor.

  • Developing Leaders

Dress For Success Day is a big deal on Thursdays at Oakdale. Students dress in business attire and have lunch at a special table. They must show leadership and super behavior to be a part of this elite group. Leaders from the community are invited to join the students and give them encouragement and tips for success.

  • Focus on Literacy

Our students are motivated to read for enjoyment through our Book Talk Cafe. Students attend the cafe after reading books from a certain genre. They sit, relax, eat, and discuss the books read. The atmosphere reminds one of a quaint cafe in a bookstore. Leaders from the community are invited to join the students in the cafe. We also use MyOn and Accelerated Reader to increase reading proficiency.

  • Service Learning

Oakdale excels in service-learning projects. Our students give back through visiting nursing homes, collecting canned goods for the food bank and helping needy families. Oakdale was one the top schools to collect the most cans in the district for the Beat Auburn, Beat Huger canned good drive.

  • School of Global Communicators

We are shifting the atmosphere of our school and teaching with the goal of becoming a school of Global Communications. Students will explore such areas as public speaking, graphic design, broadcasting and journalism. We have partnered with Dr. George Daniels and The University of Alabama’s College of Communication and Information Sciences to assist us with this endeavor.
