Learn more about Westlawn Middle School
Westlawn Middle School is a jewel of a school that is located between Stillman College and The University of Alabama. We serve more than 500 students in grades 6-8. We believe in cultivating a positive learning environment that focuses on the whole student. We strive to meet the needs of each and every individual learner. We implement student-led centers, facilitate peer discussions, project based learning and integrate technology across all content areas. We deliver instruction with a passion to capture kids’ hearts. The faculty and staff is devoted to all students.
A School with a Vision
Under its present leadership, Westlawn Middle School has a well-defined vision which will help students find success academically as well as inspire students to reach their goals.
Culture of Care
Westlawn Middle School Restorative Justice Team (RJT) empowers students to resolve conflicts on their own and in small groups. The purpose of the RJT is to bring students together in peer-mediated small groups to talk, ask questions and air their grievances. Our school has seen drastic reductions in suspension and expulsion rates, and students say they are happier and feel safer.
Extended Learning Opportunities
Westlawn Middle School extends learning for each and every student every day. The WMS Falcons After School Learning Academy is offered to all students at no cost to parents. Students are engaged in enrichment activities, such as coding, fine arts and science activities. Each student receives additional time learning with certified teachers and community partners outside the school day.
Westlawn Middle School is transforming learning for each and every child through hands-on activities, centers and small group instruction. Each teacher is dedicated to implementing practices that are usually not typical for middle school educators, but because we believe middle school students learn by doing, we model these practices daily. We are committed to teaching with high expectations.
