Learn more about Verner Elementary School

  • Students working on tablets

Verner Elementary has been in our community for over 100 years. Supported by tremendous parent involvement, community partnerships, and a faculty of highly qualified educators who are continuously learning and applying strategies to meet the needs of our diverse student population. We also recognize the success of each student and celebrate our cultural diversity. Verner has a community of stakeholders that include five Adopt-A-School partners who provide student and staff recognition. Parent volunteers and a strong PTA support the school by assisting with special projects and events. Stakeholders have built two community playgrounds, including the 2010 upgrade to the Field of Dreams, a facility built by volunteers. We are committed to student achievement and the advancement of our students’ physical, social, academic and emotional needs. Verner offers many experiences to ensure student advancement and a love of learning.

  • Engaging Math & Science Experiences

Teachers create a nurturing, student-centered, collaborative learning environment where our students strive for academic excellence by engaging in a rigorous, differentiated, and standards-based curriculum. Teachers provide unique experiences in math and science that challenge our students by engaging in questioning, collaboration, and hands-on activities while they address real life issues. Teachers inspire curiosity and a sense of wonder as they guide students through the problem-solving process and plan projects that lead to mastery of content and math and science proficiency.

  • Technology Enhanced Instruction

Teachers and students embrace the use of technology to enhance daily student learning. We currently have a one to one program with over 200 Chromebooks and tablets provided in part by a supportive business community and parents. They have also assisted us by ensuring that every class has a Smart Board. The computer lab teacher provided by the PTA teaches classes to all grade levels in keyboarding and students participate in digital citizenship lessons.

  • Focus on Literacy Success for All

The Verner library is the heart of the school with 19,000 books. Students read more than 85,000 books every year. Verner strives to foster a love of reading as well as success in reading with targeted instruction and motivational strategies. Teachers differentiate instruction to accommodate all levels of learning and student interests. Our literacy goals match the expectations of students, teachers, parents, and the community as we provide a strong culture of reading, writing, and thinking.

  • Extracurricular & Service Learning

All students can participate in service projects that reflect student interests and community need. There are multiple opportunities for students to enhance leadership skills and carry out the positive traits of being respectful, responsible, and resourceful.
