TCS to Shift Graduation Times Due to Severe Weather

    May 27, 2021

Following consultation with the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Birmingham, the Tuscaloosa City Schools will move graduation times to earlier in the day on Friday, May 28. TCS administrators made the decision to avoid severe weather predictions of rain and lightning for tomorrow afternoon.

Superintendent Dr. Mike Daria acknowledged that the change might be an inconvenience, but it was the best decision considering the circumstances.

"We know that graduation is a huge milestone for our seniors," said Daria. “The time change offers TCS the best opportunity to graduate seniors on their original graduation date while family and friends are already in town.”

Paul W. Bryant High School’s graduation will now be at 9 a.m.; Central High School’s graduation will start at 11:30 a.m.; and the Northridge High School commencement ceremony will begin at 1:30 p.m. All ceremonies will occur at the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater, located at 2710 Jack Warner Parkway, in downtown Tuscaloosa. All guests, regardless of age, will need a wristband for entry.

The ceremonies will be streamed live on the TCS Youtube channel for those who may choose to watch from the comfort of their homes.

TCS reminds guests that the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater has a clear bag policy in place as well as prohibitions on food or drink, weapons, umbrellas, flowers, or signs.

Due to the projected temperatures in the upper 80s for Friday, TCS will provide complimentary bottled water to all guests.

TCS is offering air-conditioned shuttle buses from the downtown Intermodal Parking Deck to help you arrive on time for the occasion.
