Voting Information
A special election will take place on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, asking Tuscaloosa residents to consider an increase in ad valorem rates to support the Tuscaloosa City Schools. In order to vote in that election, you must be a registered voter and have lived in the city of Tuscaloosa at least 30 days.
If you are not a registered voter but would like to participate in the referendum vote, you must register to vote by Sept. 10. You can confirm your voter registration status, register to vote or search for your specific polling location on Alabama’s election website.
Polling Locations:
Polling places are open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on election day (Sept. 24). A valid ID is required.

Absentee Voting Information:
- Paper absentee applications are available at the City Clerk’s Office in Tuscaloosa City Hall (2201 University Blvd, Tuscaloosa, AL) or can be downloaded online.
- The absentee ballot application must be returned to the City Clerk’s Office by the voter in person (or by the voter's designee in the case of medical emergency voting), by U.S. Mail, or by commercial carrier.
- No absentee ballot application may be mailed in the same envelope as another voter's absentee ballot application.
- Absentee ballot applications returned by mail must be received no later than 7 days before the election (September 17th) .
- Absentee ballot applications returned by hand must be received no later than 5 days before the election (September 19th).
- Absentee ballots may be delivered by hand to the City Clerk’s Office Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on September 23rd).
- If mailed, absentee ballots must be postmarked by September 23rd and received no later than 12:00 p.m. on September 24th
- Emergency absentee ballots can be applied for and voted on until September 23rd.
