RQES Celebrates AL NBCT Week

NBCT Rock Quarry Elementary School is celebrating Alabama Nationally Board Certified Teacher Week March 5-11 by honoring NBCTs.

National Board Certification (NBC) is a voluntary, advanced teaching credential that goes beyond state licensure. NBC has national standards for what accomplished teachers should know and be able to do. The National Board certifies teachers who successfully complete its rigorous certification process.

Research shows students of Board-certified teachers outperform their peers in other classrooms on achievement tests, and that schools and districts with a high concentration of NBCT’s see marked improvements in school culture, collaboration and teacher retention.

Rock Quarry is fortunate to have 6 National Board Certified Teachers on our faculty pictured here.  From left to right; Mrs. Tesiero 3rd, Mrs. McClinton K, Mrs. McWilliams 5th, Mrs. Prowell 1st, Mrs. Jenne' K, and Mrs. Powell 5th.

"Achieving National Board Certification has caused me to be more reflective in my teaching and practice," says NBCT Angela McClinton.

NBCTCandidates The Alabama NBCT Network helps NBCTs across the state support certification candidates, work to improve education in local schools and across the state, and to discover places of leadership in our profession. We have 4 NBCT candidates at Rock Quarry pictured here; Mrs. Mason 4th, Mrs. McMillan 3rd, Mrs. Ziegler 3rd and Mrs. Case 3rd.

NBCT candidate, Jana Mason says pursuing National Board Certification gave her "butterflies", anxiety like she had not felt since the first day of her teaching career. "As on that first day of teaching, this journey on which I have embarked, choosing to become a National Board Certified teacher, (not if, because failure is not an option) has already left an indelible mark on me, even before the first component has been submitted for review."  Andrea Ziegler said, " I am on this journey as a learner myself to grow in my professional skills and to become more student-centered."

The network's goals include the following: to provide a connections between Alabama teachers and NBPTS and between Alabama NBCTs and to provide a support system for NBCTs as they support candidates, share ideas and concerns, work to improve our schools, and seek leadership positions.
