Four employees from Verner Elementary School were recognized at the Tuscaloosa City Schools' 7th Annual Apple Awards in December. Melei Rennicks, Kate Garrett, Mary Elizabeth Price, and Emily Meriwether were among 83 system wide nominees who were honored at an event designed to celebrate excellence in education. Verner Elementary School employees selected the above named individuals to represent the school at the system level of competition. Each nominee was awarded a medallion and join those who have come before them to carry the symbol of excellence from the Tuscaloosa City Schools. It is the highest honor bestowed upon an employee of TCS. Rennicks was nominated as the TCS Support Employee of the Year; Price was named the school's Jacksonville State University Teacher Hall of Fame nominee; Garrett received the Technology Innovation Award nomination and Meriwether was honored as the nominee for the the Alabama Teacher of the Year.
