TCS Re-establishes COVID Tracker

The Tuscaloosa City Schools re-established its COVID Tracker today to maintain transparency with stakeholders. The dashboard debuted during the 2020-2021 school year, marking the state's first real-time COVID Tracker among public school systems.
The feature ceased options in June 2021 with the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) maintaining public health data for school systems as part of a statewide database. However, superintendent Dr. Mike Daria said that internal data collected in the opening days of the new school year indicated the TCS dashboard should resume.
"Re-establishing our COVID Tracker points to our commitment of being transparent with stakeholders about the numbers we are seeing," said Daria. "We want to make sure that we have a safe learning and working environment for our students and staff. That work is made possible with the help of families monitoring their children for symptoms, keeping them home if they are sick, and promoting good hygiene practices."
The dashboard features data from the 2021-2022 and 2020-2021 school years.
The TCS COVID Tracker is updated throughout the day as cases are identified. Although ADPH bears the responsibility of quarantining individuals, parents and employees may choose to self-quarantine. The quarantines/isolations noted in the COVID Tracker reflect those who have received a diagnosis of a confirmed positive case (isolation) and those who either (a) are under ADPH quarantine or (b) have chosen to self-quarantine and notified school officials of this decision.
