TCS Announces Apple Award Recipients

Tuscaloosa City Schools recognized outstanding teachers and support personnel at the annual Apple Awards on December 17 at 6 p.m. at Tuscaloosa Career & Technology Academy. Personnel was recognized in four areas: Alabama Teacher of the Year Program, Jacksonville State University Teacher Hall of Fame, Support Employee of the Year and Innovative Technology Award.

The Alabama Teacher of the Year Program seeks annually to honor and recognize excellence in the teaching profession by identifying outstanding Alabama classroom teachers at local, district and state levels. School nominees are: Elementary – Stacy Stone, Arcadia Elementary; Perry Folante, Central Elementary; Khalia Burton, Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary; Tracey Sanders, Oakdale Elementary; Dashauna M. Ballard, Oak Hill (Stars Academy/Success Prep; Christopher Williams, Rock Quarry Elementary; Shayla Thomas, Skyland Elementary; Amy Barksdale, Southview Elementary; Marissa Mena, The Alberta School of Performing Arts; Lauren Craddock, Tuscaloosa Magnet School Elementary; Jennifer Smith, University Place Elementary; Emily Meriwether, Verner Elementary; Taylor Lamon, Woodland Forrest Elementary. The Jacksonville State University Teacher Hall of Fame recognizes leadership and excellence in elementary, middle and high school teachers. The Support Employee of the Year award honors outstanding support employees in the areas of transportation, child nutrition, classroom aides, and Central Office support positions, including maintenance. The Innovative Technology Award recognizes teachers who use technology with their students in ways that meet the highest standards for technology integration.
