The goal for the 2017-2018 school year is to align our entire system of initiatives, support, and resources to the strategic plan. The overall focus for the school year is literacy across content areas. It is extremely important that we communicate the "why" behind the professional development sessions.
On the morning of August 3, 2017, the elementary schools will discover new features of Math Investigations 3, deepen understanding of math practice standards and content standards, and apply their learning through hands-on practice. The middle and high school teachers will participate in a curriculum guide review and development process in which the literacy standards will be highlighted across the curriculum. This development process will continue throughout the school year and will encompass Strategic Plan Goals 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, and 1.4.
During the afternoon, elementary teachers will explore best practices in literacy instruction and have opportunities to practice their learning by planning and reflecting on effective teaching practices. The middle and high school teachers will participate in a digital transformation session. Over the next few years, with the 1:1 initiative, many teachers will be teaching students with access to devices. TCS is committed to providing training on digital tools that can be used to plan lessons that will enhance, enrich, and optimize student learning outcomes.
Additionally, the elementary teachers will appropriately align and utilize digital resources to their lessons throughout the training. As indicated on the attachment, the middle and high teachers will have the opportunity to choose a session of interest for the final session.
