TCS COVID Tracker
Maintaining Trust & Transparency with Stakeholders
As the 2020-2021 school year begins, the safety of our students and staff will continue to be our highest priority. In an effort of full disclosure and to keep our parents fully informed, we will provide information daily when positive COVID cases are identified among students or staff. As individuals are identified, those who have found to be in close contact with the individual will be provided with quarantine/self-isolation timelines.
According to the Alabama Department of Public Health, a close contact is someone who has been within 6 feet of a COVID-19 positive person for more than 15 minutes. If you are not contacted by a school nurse within 24 hours, it has been determined that your child is not considered a close contact. All subsequent layers of contact tracing and identification will be handled by ADPH.
The Notification Process
Once the Tuscaloosa City Schools receives the notification of a positive case--whether student or staff member--the school nurse begins the process to identify and notify those who have been in close contact with the individual. The guidance from the Alabama Department of Public Health Toolkit requires school systems to notify ADPH within four hours.
After those in close contact have been properly notified, the building administrator will contact all parents/guardians and employees of the confirmed positive case through the automated messaging system. These notifications will occur on the day school officials learn of a positive case and will provide only non-personally identifiable information. The TCS COVID Tracker is updated in realtime and is made available on the system website.
Data collected is as of September 21, 2020, the first date of students returning to TCS facilities. It is updated in realtime and is based on the self-reporting of COVID positive cases by students and employees. For the most current information, please refresh your screen.
